First update: what changed since Oct 11

New results 2026-10-12 – 2026-10-16, compared with 2026-09-29 – 2026-10-11.

What changed

  1. The two Dimir decks now make up 28% of Challenge lists. Dimir Midrange rose from 8.8% to 14.6% and Dimir Reanimator from 3.5% to 13.5%. Together they took 16 of the 48 Top 8 slots in the six Challenges from Oct 12 to 16, and each won one (_Falcon_ on Oct 14, J4K3ST3R02 on Oct 16). Neither is beating the published-field average in this window (62.0%, z +1.01 and 58.0%, z −0.01).
  2. Several of last week's most played decks fell off in Challenges. Izzet Spellementals went from 11.2% to 6.2%, Boros Dragons from 7.3% to 2.8%, Rakdos Lizards from 5.0% to 1.1% and Jund Sacrifice from 8.1% to 3.9%. Jund Sacrifice still won the Oct 15 Challenge 16 (pizzangry, 8–1) and Boros Dragons won the other Oct 15 Challenge.
  3. Mono-Green Landfall doubled and changed shape. It is 9.6% of Challenge lists (from 4.8%) and 9 of 68 League 5–0s. 16 of 26 recent lists (14 players) play Carnivorous Cultivator, usually 3, alongside more Elven Passage and Demolition Field.
  4. 4c Control rose from 4.4% to 8.4% and won the Oct 12 Challenge 32. A black-heavier build appeared: Fire Magic, Duress, Deadly Cover-Up and Strategic Betrayal in place of No More Lies, Day of Judgment and Plunder the Trollshaws. Four of these lists (5th in two Challenges, plus two 5–0s) are 20+ maindeck cards off the old stock list.
  5. Orzhov Lifegain leads the League 5–0s (11 of 68, from 14 of 136) but had only 2 Challenge Top 8s. Its lists moved toward main Seam Rip (29% → 64%) and away from main Deep-Cavern Bat (76% → 44%).
  6. Azorius Momo more than doubled (2.7% → 6.2%) and took 2nd twice. Clarion Conqueror moved out of the maindeck (46% of lists → 0%) and into the sideboard (23% → 80%).
  7. Dimir sideboards shifted toward counterspells. Dimir Midrange: Negate 33% → 84% and Tishana's Tidebinder 26% → 71% of sideboards, Annul 62% → 19%; Preacher of the Schism nearly left the maindeck (55% → 6%). Dimir Reanimator sideboards added Disdainful Stroke, Deadly Cover-Up, M.O.D.O.K. and Doomsday Excruciator. The Oct 16 winner replaced Superior Spider-Man with 4 Kavaero, Mind-Bitten (8 recent Reanimator lists play Kavaero, from 3).
  8. Izzet Prowess borrowed from Spellementals. 7 of 11 recent lists play Hearth Elemental and Great Hall of the Biblioplex shows up in 6. The Oct 13 Challenge 32 was won 9–0 by mami with this version. A separate black-splash Prowess list with Callous Sell-Sword and Ancestral Anger took 3rd on Oct 16 (MacIsaac).
  9. Other new decks with a 5–0 or Top 8: Mono-Black with Tinybones, the Pickpocket and Forsaken Miner (Kerci, 8th Oct 14), Mono-Green Eldrazi with Ugin, Eye of the Storms and Emrakul, the Exigent Doom (narca), Izzet Artifacts with Ironheart, Clever Champion and Legion Extruder (Cubswin45), Jund planeswalkers with Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Way of the Pyromancer (NAP_DARKMAGE_MJM); each is one list so far. Temur Landfall (Comrade1312) also 5–0'd, an older deck that had fallen out of favor posting its first result in a while.

“Before” = share of Challenge lists and count of 5–0s in 2026-09-29 – 2026-10-11 (480 Challenge lists, 136 5–0s). ▲/▼ marks a change of 3 points or more.

Card trends in the top 10 decks

Share of the archetype’s lists (Challenges + 5–0s) playing at least one copy, before → now, with average copies. A card is listed when its share moved 25+ points (and at least 3 different players adopted it) or its average copy count moved by a full card.

Method

Source: every Standard Challenge and League page on mtgo.com from Sept 29 to Oct 16 (22 Challenges, 204 League 5–0s). The comparison window is Sept 29 – Oct 11, the period the Reality Fracture doc covered. Archetypes come from the same signature-card rules as that doc, with four refinements: Iridescent Vinelasher lists without red are Mono-Black Aggro rather than Rakdos Lizards, Ugin/Emrakul lists are Mono-Green Eldrazi, and three-colour Golgari Midrange, Prowess and Jeskai Control lists are named by their colours. Because of that, a few base shares differ slightly from the earlier doc (Izzet Spellementals 11.2% here versus 10.8% there). Challenge records include mirror matches and only the top 32 of each Challenge is published, so z compares each deck with the average of the published players (58.1% in Oct 12–16). With 6 events and 178 lists, the new-window win rates are small samples; no deck is beyond |z| 2. A new list is one whose 60-card maindeck differs from its archetype's stock list by 20 or more cards (Collins's threshold). No Elo check (MTGO handles cannot be matched to ratings).
